March once again found the 4th Coy recreating the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in Greensboro, North Carolina. As in previous years, the Guards made camp in Tannenbaum Park, on ground the Crown forces covered 226 years ago. This is a unique opportunity, since the rest of the reenactment community made camp at Price Park, the site of the daily tactical demonstrations.
Formation was called Saturday morning, where the rust was worked out and the company was led through drill, emphasizing drilling and firing with bayonets fixed. After a noon meal of bread, meat, and cheese, the company made their way over to Price Park to play their role in the tactical demonstration. 4th Coy played the role of light infantry, forming a skirmish line on either side of the artillery and traded independent fire with continental militia. With the main army deploying, 4th Coy smartly reformed behind the main line, waiting to be deployed after the first continental line broke. Once 4th Coy was deployed, the public was given the opportunity to see true Guards volleys. The battle proceeded as scripted, with excitement provided by a nearby cavalry charge..
Dinner was convened at Ham's near Tannenbaum Park, with members retiring to the Hoskin's house for fellowship around the kitchen fire. The below freezing temperatures drove some members to sleep in the Hoskin's house, but some hardy souls stayed in their tents.
The second day's events closely followed the first day, but with 4th Coy breaking camp before making their way to Price Park. After the battle, the members bid farewell, looking forward to the company's next big event in Williamsburg.
